trimming a groove-tool holder

I bought a profiling tool with inserts to plunge profiles and the smallest tool holder I could get was .75" x .75". My question is how difficult is it to machine .25" off the bottom to fit my tool post holders. A friend from Ohio did one for me already but I think he ground it down. I don't have a surface grinder so I was hoping to do it in the mill.

Shouldn't be a problem for you to mill it down.

I've done similar to a couple and have found them to be right around 50 RC hardness on ones I've tested.

I have also cut down a few shanks without incident. As an option , I have made a few custom tool holder blocks that take a larger shank.

I did a couple in the lathe [not having a mill], and it wasn't very hard.
Difficult I mean.
Or hard.

I've cut down a few Kennametal holders without difficulty. As others have said, not very hard, but didn't cut easily. I used a 1/2" 3 flute carbide roughing EM, which did the job to my satisfaction.
