I've got a Jet lathe 13x40 w/ stand that includes a flood lubrication system. I've make a splash and cover for the spindle to keep the oil in the pan, most of the time I love it with the carbide insert tools I can cut a lot of work, but since I've started using my new mill that came with a DRO I'm dying to get one for my lathe but don't know how it would react in this environment?
Any information would be great.
DRO vs flood lubrication

The best times were behind one of Al's engines
I would have to say it depends on the type of scales used so checking with the manufacturer would be your best bet.
I use a Fagor DRO which has glass scales. The coolant does not seem to bother mine as the scales are shrouded and mounted in such a way that the coolant does not (well, is not supposed to) get to the actual glass scale.

Look into a Newell or a Sony DRO. The they don't use use glass scales.
