Homebuilt CNC Mill Runs Production

Post by JimGlass »

Here is a 1000 piece production jobs that repeats every month and part of the motivation to build the CNC mill. Normally this job runs on my CNC Bridgeport but now can run on both machines simultaneously if necessary.

Below is the original setup in my CNC Bridgeport where I machined holes in one end of the enclosure at a time. After running several hundred of these I got real good at flipping the enclosures 180 degrees with
my fingers. When finished with the last hole I would have a fresh piece in my right hand and unload the finished piece with my left then restart the program.

Below is an inspection fixture I made to check the finish work. If something came loose between the steppers and ballscrew in my homebuilt machine I wanted a way to detect the problem.

Hope this was if interest.

Wouldn't it make more sense to post this in the CNC section?

My two cents here is that this kind of work must be shared with the largest block of members.

General Discussion is that section.

Bare in mind that Jim is not showing just a CNC operation.
He built that machine and made it work !! 8) 8) 8)

That's over my head on what I can do
There are no problems, only solutions.

Good job Jim!

I want to build some CNC machines some day. Maybe when I retire. Looks like a lot of fun and mucho gratification.

I think me too, but with my brother's help, we could make it happen. Yeah... he got the brains and the looks.
