southbend 9" model C

Hello
I have a question for machinests :
I have a southbend 9" lathe model C the motor has to be replaced looking at the motor name plate i noticed that the motor is only
1\4 horse power .does anyone have suggestions to what hp. i should use , 1\4 is too small.

Hi There,

If you are looking for a new replacement, go for at least 1/2 HP.
You can go as high as 3/4 HP on those 9 inchers.

If you hope to use the machine to capacity, do use the largest motor advised, but don't go larger, as that offers the opportunity to do damage when you have less than acceptable experiences with the machine.
