That's a pretty cool concept for a log splitter, but I don't think I'd be wearing gloves around that thing !

Actually, I have thought in the past about cutting pipe tapers on a lathe, probably before I knew about taper attachments. It makes me happy that my Dual Drive has one, especially since you can't engage both feeds at the same time.

Looks like it has its drawbacks. I'd want a reduction gear and a reversible motor. I think I'd also want to feed the logs in horizontally.
Slope the table toward the motor at the half-angle of the cone. The table would need to be adjustable. Probably more of a frame than a table.

I remember as a kid seeing an ad in Popular Mechanics for such a device that attached to a car hub (jack up the car, remove the wheel and bolt on).
