I think theirs a delay with posting pictures. I go to attachments, choose photos, Done. Not getting anywhere.

Check on the right - if there's a green checkmark, you are good. If there's a yellow caution side, your picture is too large.

To resize your pictures, make a new folder on your machine and copy the pictures there. That way you still have the originals at full resolution.

Open each file in Microsoft Paint. Select resize and then 50% and save.

You should be able to upload them.

Go out and get some lotto tickets, because this is your lucky day!

A whole lot of people on this board are now officially jealous.

It's a 1943, based on data here:
http://www.wswells.com/serial_number.html

BTW, Steve Wells' site is one of the best resource on the web for South Bend lathes.

Yours is a toolroom model heavy 10. What that means is that it came from the factory with the taper attachment, thread dial, micrometer carriage stop, collet closer and collet holder. The taper attachment alone is worth 1/3 to 1/2 what you paid for the whole machine.

The catalog says that yours has 12 speeds, while the regular model has 6, probably by using a 2-sheave pulley on the motor.

Here's your lathe in the 1943 catalog:

You can get the full catalog here:
http://www.wswells.com/data/catalog/194 ... g_100C.pdf

The 1928 tag is probably an inventory tag.

This is awesome! It's like the Antiques Road Show, lol! I'm missing the micrometer and collet closer is broke though. Other than that, I think it's complete. Thanks for your help, I'm not making a move without you! If you want anymore pictures or video, let me know.

What is broken on the collet closer?

Can you post pics showing the damage?

It's just a tube with a wheel at the end, so not much to go wrong.

Hi Patio, yes I do. It’s disassemled right now though. I either need to find a new tailstock screw or weld and cut new threads onto the first inch of the shaft.

Hi There,

Your catalog number should be CL8187ZN. For some
reason, the "CL" wasn't used (CL designates a threaded
spindle nose).

The rest of your lathe's catalog number interprets as follows:

8 - Tool Room Lathe,
187 - 10L, Quick Change Gearbox, Underneath Motor Drive,
Z - 3-1/2 Foot Bed Length,
N - Steel Cabinet.

Good Luck!
