My Lathe headstock leaking oil from countershaft bearing retainer which is scotch keyed in the front of headstock.
Pulled it out and found the "installer" had over drilled and drilled through the "O" ring, clever stuff!
I really miss my Austrian and British made Lathes.

For some of what we find it makes one wonder how the tooling and methods ever got decided on. Surely the design drawings would have had a drill depth on that hole. Maybe it got missed and was hand drilled/tapped later? Still not an excuse for that though.

The plug is well made, machined one side and recessed to but up against the outer bearing race and the other side is ground, very nice, then you get someone who does this, pay peanuts you get Monkeys.
