Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum. This is great, so much information. I have recently found myself the owner of several lathes, mills, and drill presses. All this equipment works and has tooling except this nice J.J. McCabe 15 x 36 lathe. This thing is in really good shape but it is missing the change gears. Does anyone know what I need or where I can find info on this thing? My intent is to have all my machines set up and running at my new home by years end. I have a locomotive I am itching to get building. Thanks in advance for any info. Ill see if I can figure out how to post pics of this thing. Thanks again T.J.

I have only seen one McCabe lathe in 40 years and to be honest I hope I don't see another one. It was really worn out and we had to use it to do real work for paying customers. I hope yours is in much better shape than that one I used.

The lathe is in excellent shape except for it missing the quick change gears. The machine is tight and I do not seem to find any slop except for the tail post. The thread is a little loose but I can redo that part. Im sorry you had a bad experience with a McCabe. I hope this machine is worth the transportation as I am planning to use it as my larger lathe. Thanks for sharing your experience though, I apreciate any input.
