I found a neat lathe at Greer Machinery. It's a Whacheon (like Webb) 17 x 40 built in 1988. The model is WL-435.

http://www.greermachinery.com/lathes1039.htm

They say someone bought it and never turned it on. Still has grease on it. I could not prevent myself from inquiring. They're asking in the 20K range for it. Too rich for my blood, but someone else might be interested.

I really can't see paying anything like that much. Full list on a new Taiwan Kingston is a little under $15,000, and I know they would discount. The Whacheon is NOS, but who knows what support would be like for a 24-year-old Asian lathe?

I saw some guy who owns a WL-435 complaining on the web that they no longer make rests for it. If they're no longer supporting one part, you have to wonder about the rest of the machine.

Anyway, interesting find.

It's funny. Some sellers seem to think buyers are like Jay Leno.

For fun, I checked the Blue Book value of a 1992 Mercedes 500 SEL (earliest model I could check) with 1 mile on the odometer. It came out at about $10,000. A new Mercedes sedan costs a hell of a lot more than a 17" lathe.

Those are a Korean made Mori clone, top quality. I would kill for that if it had a taper attachment, as it is has every other accessory save a DRO.

For bait? Man you better go fishing !
BTW your odometer went to 1111. I'm not especially superstisious, it's just that all those ones mean something.

Down here, our bait is fish most people would be happy to catch and take home.

That is So cool. Our little panfish and bass. I've had swordfish before and it wasn't prepared right. I think there is a deer in my future. Frankly most every one who I consider friends around here has some experience with hunting deer. Most of that is by just driving.
Not in arlington but away from this racoon santuary. It's actually a good thing for DC can deposit their rats across the bridge into virginia to feed the racoons. Then let's see how transferring those racoons back across would work. crazy times while we are being eroded.

Miami is not a great place to live. The people are so rude it makes New York seem civilized, there is no culture, and the weather is pretty bad for six months out of the year. But we do have okay saltwater fishing.

I know I'll make people mad, but when I see little-bitty freshwater fish with one-ounce filets, I think, "What's the point?"

Well the fillets are more than one ounce. The little bluegill puts up quite a fight for its size. It's abalance around here as the population increased the smaller are culled out so the larger can survive. now we have Trout where you don't and pickerell and weird fishes which are difficult to clean yet very tasty. If I catch a decent snakehead I'll eat it. (after all its menu has been our local fish, perch etc) Heavy line and poles, more akin to where you are.
