Well here is post one on your forums. I recently acquired a Atlas 10" quick change lathe. Most parts were there except the tool post and the countershaft. I have scoured ebay and read numerous threads and i am pretty sure I will build my own. My question is have any of you made one and what is the best way to achieve this. Ironically i just cleaned out my barn and found a 4-5-6" step pulley along with 8,10 and 2.5" pulleys. Can i use the slots in the motor flange to tension drive belt from motor to shaft and pivot the weight of the countershaft assembly to tension the belt to the headstock? If any of you have done this I would appreciate your guidance, pics, etc. I am currently thinking 5/8 shaft, pillow blocks, and angle iron is sounding pretty good? Thanks in advance.
