ohfred again,
While we're on the subject of big machines, I was walking through the Brooklyn Navy Shipyard machine shop years ago and there was a vertical boring mill with a picture beside it with 32 men standing shoulder to shoulder across the 40' diameter chuck. It had a steel stairway to go up and work the vertical and horizontal feeds and such. Just thinking, what would you sweep the shavings up that the mill would cut? Maybe a rake on a forklift? Till the next time I get windy. smile! ohfred
