The "C" meant "Cherrying" and I thought "H" meant "Hi Speed". My notes say the "C" use Bridgeport B3 collets.

C was the original milling head. No quill.
M was the first head with a moving quill
J is the head we all recognize as a Bridgeport head, although it came in several models
R is a heavy-duty head - think of a J without the quill.
T is the cherrying head
E is the slotting head

You can read on Bridgeport heads here:

Good info. I haven't owned the "C", "H" or "T" heads. A little more fuzzy about them. One thing is collets. The Bridgeport B3 ( for C and some M heads) are sort of expensive. Then the Hardinge 2VB collets for others are really expensive.
