Erickson 2-15-209-100 TG100 collet holder ?

Post by jcfx » Sat Jul 08, 2017 5:56 pm

I helped a friend remove a stuck endmill in a Erickson collet chuck, upon getting the endmill out
and cleaning up the collet chuck I noticed there is a thrust bearing in the collet nut.
Googling around I didn't find much info, on them and what that thrust bearing does
but does look like it should be replaced because the cage for the rollers seems askew
Is anyone familiar with Erickson collet chucks ?

I'd suggest Kennemetal, who owns Erickson, I believe.
https://www.kennametal.com/en/products/ ... er=1021078

Failing that, I'd contact the sales guy at Small Tools INC, in Euclid, OH. I have seen shelves full of collets, caps and bearings.

jcfx: Were you able to get any help from Kennemetal or Small Tools?

earlgo, it got crazy busy so I never contacted Kennametal or Small tools,
but with some more Googling it seems that the ball bearing collet nuts
are supposed to offer better concentricity and grip in seating the collet.

All told I think I have about 30 TG collet chucks in TG 75,100,150 and one 200 for the couple of 2" end mills I have. In Cat40 and 50. I love the grip (hence the name, Tremendous Grip), but they don't close down as much as ER so you do have to get a full set of collets if you want to grab every size and that is a bunch.

As far as using them goes always remember you HAVE to snap the collet into the collar BEFORE you try to screw it on the chuck and put in a tool. If not you will be fighting that thing like mad. Hope that helps.

P.S. and ironically after getting full sets of all the TG collets I bought a tooling lot for my new CNC mill that had nothing but ER collet chucks, like 50 of them, guess I need to buy a set of those too. Great, more collets. Luckily only ER16,20, with a few 25 and 32 in there. Will just ignore those 25's and 32's for the superior TG's. Less collets to buy.
