Installing Case Savers in a Magnesium Engine Case

Eventually I will be installing steel Case Savers (M14 x 2) into a magnesium Porsche engine case for the head studs. The original threaded holes are bottom tapped M10 x 1.5. The hole depth is approx. 20mm. I have a Rockwell 21-100 mill that I plan to use for the process.

Has anyone here done this? Does anyone have suggestions about the process?

I did something like that for my old Mercedes block. I used fine thread 14mm inserts with 12mm internal threads.
In my case, the engine had 'wet' bolt holes, open to the water jacket, that I wanted to close. And the block is cast iron.
I drilled and tapped the block on a big drill press.

In your case, I think helicoils would do the job well and easily.

I've done a lot of VW Beetle cases, for buggies & Baja's. It used to be pretty much a routine to put them in, whether they were needed or not, if you were rebuilding, and bumping up the HP.
Most I did on a mill....easier to stay on center of the cylinder bore, but did some on a drill press. Always used a endmill, rather than a drill, as it stayed on center better.
They used to sell kits....back when VW Buggies were popular.
They are pretty forgiving. I know some people that did them by hand.......
