Long ago I built a tool that required something similar. Turned out well, too.

Clever way to rehabilitate some worn "F" style clamps (or make cheap ones, work better). A similar knurling operation using a shaper ram is in the Machine Shop Practice books or in the Colvin and Stanley Drilling and Surfacing book.
