How did you slot the wood?

Marked with a pencil line and cut slot with oscillating cutter with a half round blade on it. I was surprised at how well and straight it cut. The cutter is Harbor Freight variable speed for around $28 bucks. I used it to cut out windows as well.

Rob,
Is the cutter you the 'Multi Purpose" tool. One shown with a 3 sided (whatever)attachment? H F shows cordless and electric.
Thanks.

I got the variable speed plug in model. The three sided thing pictured their adds is a sanding pad. I did not have any success with HF rechargable battery tools in the past.

Very nice. I was thinking of building something very similar... looking forward to seeing this one come to completion.

Very Nice Work

Are you putting an interior in it or will it be a tool box?

I see some drawings in the one photo...did you do the drawings for this caboose or are they part of a kit or from a book?

Looking really good...I need to scribe some wood for some projects and I'm amazed how good yours look, especially for free handing them...might be worth the $28 and give it a shot...really have nothing to lose at that price.

Thanks for posting on here for us to follow along as you build it.

I think I will find a lot of used for the tool, I been wanting one for years and finally got a excuse to get one. The print is one I drew on turbo cad, based of the prints in the article. I like to get dimensions and angles down to a nat's butt.

I'm using a construction article from Live Steam 1989 January issue for plans. Some details in different drawing views do not line up properly, so some head scratching and modification is needed.

I am not planning to detail the inside, I may put a small compressor in it some day to power train brakes.
