Been making hand rails last couple of days, turning the wife's clothes hangers into nice little trinkets. It's 0.090" diameter steel wire, with a little hardness. The center supports were pinned with 0.040" diameter brads and than silver soldered.

Absolutely stunning work, Rob!

How did you flatten the ends of the handrails?

The hand rails are .090" diameter steel coat hanger wire. I bent it to shape with aid of vice and small hammer. Vice jaws paded with some aluminum angle. I then trimmed the ends to length and fattend with a small ball peen hammer on the anvil of the vice. 4 or 5 hammer blows did the trick. Held the right angle end upside down against the sharp edge of the anvil. Then a little tweaking in the vice after to get the ends to lay flat and straight. I sanded the ends to a radious on the 1" belt sander after drilling the holes.

Thanks, Rob. I was curious as to whether you had heated them or not. I see that wasn't necessary.

I tried heating and it didn't work as well. They cold formed just fine.
