Hello gamh44 and friends,
Done!
First runs on steam at our US-meeting in Sindelfingen were successful. Not all jobs don yet but working strong. Painting will be done in 1 to 2 years from now as soon as all main parts (cab, ront end and domes) are added to the model.
Finally we could run both Y6b 2172 and A 1239 teaming up on the point of a train - some 20 years since starting our projekts. You see me glad!
Some movies will follow soon.

What gauge / width are the rails for these locomotives?

Hi,
all the big three's of the N&W are build on 5 " gauge and scale 1/10.
You can see my J at the thread "Project J" at this board.

Hello DanSmo and Harold,
Thank you for your congratulations! I feel inspired to continue the updates for there still are so many detals to be done.
Next steaming will be at Schackendorf near the city of Hamburg. Our tandem of N&Ws will run on the poit of some hopper cars or a public train. The model smokebox door should be mounted on the front instead mothers stainless pot then .
The stoker still won't be in action there. But the new fire door for hand firing can be replaced by the HT-stoker front end very easily, if intended. But air brakes will be first including CC Westinghouse air pumps. A working steam brake is available, too.
The loco negotiates a minimum radius of 10 m (33 ') as shown. But there were some trouble with the life steam joint at the right front cylinder. The lateral movement of the ball / slip joint had to be enlarged a bit to solve the problem.
Otherwise the engine ran very well, and smooth, but I missed that sharp barking exaust of an A ! I wide field for experiments, yet.
Steamchris ran the engine for some time and seemed to like their running ('Like a Mercedes'). More to report after our next meeting.

Thanks for sharing your photos and the video. Such a great loco and those N&W hopper cars really look the part.

Please post plenty of details of the build of the pumps. It would be great to see how you approach these.Asteamhead wrote: But air brakes will be first including CC Westinghouse air pumps.
