Don't you know to measure twice and cut once.......:0)
Re: Twin Piston Oil Pump Project
Actually, I am from the "Cut it close and grind to fit" era.

Charlie:
Having made a few of these, you should consider the idea of lapping the piston into the bore using non-imbedding compound like Colgate or Crest.
Really makes a difference in performance and life.

Too many things going on to bother listing them.
Re: Twin Piston Oil Pump Project
Have used Crest before and will try it.
I have had to go back on the road again and am working in the Baltimore area for a month or so.
In the mean time I am working on finishing up the drawings in my hotel at night While Pontiacguy is working on the parts that I dropped off at his house. We are making two of these to see how well they work.
Before anyone asks, no I would not ever plan on making these for sale for other people. This really can be a tedious little project.
This is the ratchet assembly at this point. I am still learning Solidworks so todays project was learning to print to a JPEG

Re: Twin Piston Oil Pump Project
Before leaving on this trip, I did get a chance to install the ball check valves and springs for a test to see if they would in fact pump oil.
Pontiacguy has completed the first eccentric and is working on the ratchet wheels.
I have made a 2x2 and a 3x2 tank for him to play with while I am gone. This is the drawing for the 2x3 Tank Assembly with parts installed

Re: Twin Piston Oil Pump Project
Living out of a hotel sucks.
In the mean time I am trying to turn out a set of drawings that look professional in a PDF format.
Currently trying to learn how to do an exploded view.
This is the two inch square tank that I did just before leaving the house.
I believe this would be more in line with 1.5 inch scale as far as looks.
Back on the home front, Pontiacguy has produced the first eccentric

Re: Twin Piston Oil Pump Project
Caught another screw up. Assumed the 2X2 tank would work with the eccentric shaft in mid tank. Turns out there was not enough room to mount the stop pawl, so the shaft is offset .250 to the right now.
Pontiacguy enlightened me on the subject of Torrington Clutches. Most interesting and I will need to build one using this as a drive to learn about them.

The ball check valve in the bottom of the pump is a 3/16 stainless ball And 1/8x1/4 inch spring from McMaster Carr.

Re: Twin Piston Oil Pump Project
Boy am I having fun on this work trip. It has now been extended out to four weeks.
Weekend before last I visited the Chesapeake Live Steam Club located in Baltimore and it is looking like I will be driving up this Sunday to see the Pennsylvania Live Steamers.
The drawings for all the parts on the ratchet drive oiler are ready to make parts when I get home.
In the mean time I spoke with Pontiacguy on the oilers that have Torrington Clutch drives. He tells me the usual problem with them is the shafts galling up. Out of curiosity I have ordered a 4mm clutch and a piece of 4mm tool steel to make a hardened shaft from. This with the idea of making a couple of test models.
The assembly modeling is done for a 2x2 Oiler and I will spend this next week making shop drawings to cut parts when I get home.

Re: Twin Piston Oil Pump Project
Home again from my travels.
Spent yesterday in the shop welding up eight tanks. Four are 2x3 and four are 2x2 inches.
On the lathe I am working on the pump bodies for them.
