Re: my project
George,
Would love to see your build sometime and show you mine if you would like. Also I have a killer detailed pacific fast mail brass HO loco of 3437 which was nearly identical to 3429
Brian,
thats the one...I know I'll end up winging it from those photos. its not going to be functional so it just has to resemble it.

Re: my project
Hello Pam,
I have followed this one build project faithfully, as I did Trainman's. I built an Allen Mogul a couple years back so I understand whats going on. I have enjoyed your project very much and I understand the breaks that have to be taken during the build. Determination will get you thru eventually. Beside my steam engine build I built a full size biplane back in the 80's, took four years. I enjoyed the building process', as you are for the most part (??), and I mostly enjoyed the finished project.
Your day will come.
Thanks for your time with the "My Project" thread.

Re: my project
progress.......
smoke box innerds are almost done....and have kept it nice and clean.....clear run from flues to pettycoat. made and installed the calculated nozzle bushing. this thing should draft like a jet engine. just need some good silver braze to do the lubricator lines.
stuck the front facia on to start doing the pump mounts tomorrow. also going to cut all the spacers for the shrouding rings.
a few photos

Re: my project
Hi Pam,
Do you have an adjustable petticoat?
The reason I ask is the smokebox arrangements I've seen for
coal burning engines have the gap between the petticoat and
exhaust as you do, but many Santa Fe oil burners had exhaust
nozzles very close to the petticoat, especially the superpower
engines.
J. Koopmans can probably explain why but it may have
something to do with the additional draft caused by the
burner and atomizer.
An adjustable petticoat will allow you to make sure you have
the ability to get maximum performance from your arrangement.

Re: my project
The geometry has been carefully calculated to give the best possible numbers using existing castings. This arrangement has been around for along time and many engines running good. Worst I may have to do is fiddle with the nozzle bushing.
Have the pump mount drawn out and the material. Will begin fabbing that tomorrow. Then the compressor.
At the fall meet I hope to score the door hinges and light mount. And maybe the down tube cover flanges. Need to also order a pair of classification lights.
Holy buckets of liquid steam batman....it's starting to actually look like 3464.

Re: my project
How'd the tender truck castings turn out? I think when last mentioned you were about to send them off to the foundry.
