Another detail to add to the finished pile
Brake Cylinder Support, Print 1B, 2 req
Jim offers these as a set of very nice castings. But I got a little bored and made up a set of programs as I have a hunch I will be making more of these down the road for other locomotives.
other builders may want to take note of these castings for there projects. they finish at the pretty standard width of 4.500. has all the mounts to support the brake cylinders he offers which are very nice looking, will show them down the line.

Grant,
You took a few days off but then post another killer nice set of parts that is certainly to the Gold Standard of the hobby. They look so nice that you should be staging them on a nice piece of Waterford Crystal with gold coins.
Keep up the outstanding work!

Re: Building a Berkshire
Grant, great to see your update. Was starting to get withdrawal since your last post. Are you going to use the cast main frames or machine them from bar?

Re: Building a Berkshire
Life has been pretty hectic the last year and a half ( cant believe its been year and a half dormant!). my little boy is growing and enjoy spending time with him.
family time, running my business, and now teaching machine shop classes at night.
but have been doing a few little things here and there. after the gears show I should be able to start putting some serious time back on this engine. Doyle was by the shop the other day to grab some burner quadrants he needed for some locos. he is always checking on the berk as they are his first love. I was showing him some parts and commenting on the detail and the research one does to do the job right. I pulled out the Pyle headlight and commented that its a wonderful kit but it has a few flaws on it for what I am doing, one of which is the later berks had 2 bulbs in the headlight rather than one. he got all ecxited and said he had one of the inserts from a berk. so a few day later I go down to the roundhouse and he pulls me aside and digs out the insert.!! about the same time Hans calls on a road trip and asks if he was standing in front of the 779 what pics do I want!! blup, blup, everything!!!!!!!!!! forgot to pin point some exact areas that I wanted! but he got me over 200 pics!! Thanks Hans!!. well the 779 headlight insert is a little different than the example I have but between everything I now have I can take care of that detail!!!
been working on the tender brake cylinders, but have some porosity issues in the castings so having to sleeve them,
then the last few months been playing musical machines, buying selling and back nd forth upgrading some equipment!!
but in a couple of weeks should be back on track making parts!!!
pictures are of the headlight insert, and my little boy!! he loves trains, planes, trucks and machinery!!!
