The Pacific...

Post by Snajrog »

I'm sure a lot of you saw this Pacific on DLS, with all its gadgets and gizmos. For it's day (1970) it was pretty advanced.
With a bunch of negotiating, a bunch of inspections, I brought it home. I knew enough to recognize solid machine work and with the able eyes of a qualified friend to reconfirm, it was a no brainer, especially since it was only an hour away.
My intentions were to clean it up and run it as is but one thing lead to another and as pictures will show, it got stripped down. Three months so far and I expect to be completed in two more. I did have a one inch Pacific for a couple months prior to this and it was a good learning platform, but I never ran it, just dabbled with the piping, this loco will be the real test of my new skills. I'm happy with the way it's coming along. FWIW, it passed its hydro and internal camera inspection with flying colors. The roller stand that it sits on is also of my doing.

Very nice work, looks 10 times better than it did before.
Where did you find the compressors?

The compressor, and the water pump on the other side, are From Moe's Locomotive Works. A bit over scale and a bit pricey, but they are just the slickest things ever. They sound exactly like the real deal. Mounting them was a challenge but well worth the expletives.

This is an absolute beauty here my friend. The backhead is the cleanest I've seen for being outshopped. The SuperScale Chicago Injector makes an excellent touch. Did the 1" Scale Pacific end up being sold? Thanks and Keep on Steamin' My Friend!!

Is that Chicago Injector 1" scale or 11/2" scale? It looks great!
