CNW J class Mikado
Hi All
I figure if I do not start on the locomotive it will never get done. I purchased the original drawing over 10 years ago. I now have over 100 drawings. I also found as many pictures as I could find including the builders pictures.
And so it begins.

Are you going to start off with a Railroad Supply (Railroad Warehouse) USRA Heavy Mikado kit?
If so don't forget about these other threads here on the board:

I'll be looking forward to seeing this brute of an engine come together.

In my eyes that locomotive is a standoff scale stand in for a USRA Heavy Mikado. Due to the fact a shorter than scale stroke was used, I cannot use the cylinder castings. I wish someone would provide the correct vertical frame Coles trailing truck as well. It is still a nice locomotive.Curtis_F wrote:Ain't that the truth!FLtenwheeler wrote:I figure if I do not start on the locomotive it will never get done.

The first group of CNW Js where built in 1913 with a total of 342 engine in 7 groups. I will be building 2530 from group 5. This was the first group to use Young valve gear. They used the same flat frame Coles trailing truck that was used on the first 4 groups. One thing special about 2530 is that it was one of two locomotives built with a Worthington feed water heater.
In 1.6 scale the CNW J should be just under 79” long.

Inventorying the parts this morning shows me just how many details are needed for a steam locomotive. I have a set of classification light that I found. But I can not find the wheels for the tender trucks.

Looks to me like you have the whole engine you just need to bolt it gether...couple of weeks and it should be ready to run

The driving box blanks have been finished. I will still have a lot of work to do on them when I receive them. But the hard part is done.
