Very Nice Clishay!
What are your thoughts on the Coles pump castings? How is the quality? Did you have any problems buying from Coles?
I've been thinking for getting a set for my shay.
Thanks,
Brian

Ken was very easy to deal with, and he did let me know that some of the castings weren't avaible when I had first called him since they were getting cast at the foundry. He called me back a few days later when they arrived, and he got them sent my way. The castings themselves look pretty good, and they're comparable in quality to the Shay castings from Ken Schroeder that my grandpa got last month. The pump is about 5" long, and maybe a little less than 2" wide.

Re: Building my 1.5" scale Clishay as a beginner
I've been having a problem with the left hand cylinder's eccentric slipping on my engine. It's done it twice now, and I'm hoping that it doesn't require another set screw to be added. Is probably just a problem with the engine vibrating that could be loosening it? I've looked into the packing gland possibly being too tight, but that doesn't seem to be the problem.

Assuming there's enough thread, add a second set on top of the first, to lock it in place. If there's not enough room, you might consider using a longer set, then add a (thin) locknut. Anything to prevent the screw from loosening once it's set properly. Also, if you are happy with the location of the eccentric, drill in to the shaft a little, so the screw has a socket, for a more permanent drive. That might also provide a little extra thread for a second set screw.

Looking at your boiler pix I have a few questions.littleevan99 wrote:My order from PMR came in after waiting for a few weeks, and I installed a new globe valve and some tubing for my sight glass blowdown. The old brass drain valve leaked water pretty bad.
1. For the wood cladding, is it applied directly to the boiler?
2. How did you apply the wood?
3. What type did you use? and
4. Did you use an insulation layer under the wood?

Yes.
2. How did you apply the wood?
It sits directly on it, and there are 3 brass bands holding it on.
3. What type did you use? and
I used red oak hobby boards from Home Depot, and I ripped them in half on a table saw.
4. Did you use an insulation layer under the wood?
The wood is the insulation, and I can touch the boiler for a second or two before it feels too hot.
Yes.

Do you have any photos of how you ran your gas line to the rear without interfering with the rear truck?
Thanks,

Re: Building my 1.5" scale Clishay as a beginner
Been a while since I've posted here, but here's the CliShay's latest(should be last) addition. I've finally gotten a Worthington duplex pump for the CliShay, and here it is installed next to the engine. I started on building one a few years ago, but I never finished it. A few months ago I traded a club member mine for his working pump. I'm planning on keeping it on the CliShay until I finish my bigger Shay, and then moving it over. Or I'll find another one, and keep this one for this engine.

Nice to see your installation.
It spures me on to start building my original Cole's Worthington Pump "kit."
I looks like a challenging project.
