Re: Project: N&W class J on 5"gauge
Hi Guys,
since my last report, we made some progress on the J engine bed.
Leaf springs with suspension... Axle fork bridges done and mounted First time on wheels, to get some impression of the dimension of the 5"gauge J
we toped the engine bed with the Boiler...that was a good feeling, even if i know that there is a lot
of work to do....
All the best and kind Regards

Hi Guys,
since the last posting we made some progress
on my J Enginebed.
Rear end is almost finished and ready for the boiler toping.
Bumper Beam and Front end still waiting for finishing.
It was a little bit tricky to repoduce the air tank, we want so close
as possible to recreating the look of the casted one .
Next steps are the trailing-/ engine truck.
Kind Regards
Chris

I assume the tank of which you speak is the center section of the frame?Steamchris wrote:It was a little bit tricky to repoduce the air tank,
Pretty work!

Re: Project: N&W class J on 5"gauge
Morning Harold,
yes the air tank is the center section,
for more stability we mounted some more
cross connections, the target is to become a very
rigid frame, like the original GSC.....
Air tank an frame connections, before welding the beautyful full scale GSC J Enginebed Here the cross connections. ...
Kind Regards

I'm impressed!
What method of welding was chosen for the assembly? I've looked closely and can't define a weld bead.
You gentlemen sure do nice work over there.

Hello Harold,
sorry my picture's was made before welding by WIG method.
I hope it is the correct desicnation for the method.
I will Post some pictures from the finished welded tank later.
This picture shows the rear end during the welding process
by WIG method aswell. Some Parts of the rear and Front end are
made by welding and soldering method.
The rear end is completly made of 3mm SS sheet metal.
Kind Regards

Hi all,
some more Parts which are mayby of interest.
Here you ca see some different sings, #1239 for" Asteamheads"
A, aswell the cylinder signs and Builders plate.
The other are for my Dad's Y6b and for my J 611, the big three Next picture shows the Commonwealth trucks of the N&W Tender.
3D printed , we want to creat casting patterns with it.
Hopefully it will work as we think. Regards

WIG (Wolfram Inert Gas) is the equivalent to TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) here in the US.Steamchris wrote: sorry my picture's was made before welding by WIG method.

Beautiful workmanship, Chris. Keep sharing your progress.

SteamChris:
Your English is far better than almost all of our German, no need to apologize for using German abbreviations for processes. Come to think of it, your English is better than some of our English.
That said, beautiful work on the locomotive.
