Live steam track east of Templeton CA

Post by cp4449 » Thu Nov 06, 2014 3:18 pm

Does anyone know who owns the live steam track (trestle, and switches, and a loop) on S El Pomar Rd? Looks like 7 1/2" line to me

Just curious

Where abouts on S El Pomar is it? I've scanned the entire length of road and haven't found it yet.

A train theme winery at 5036 South El Pomar, but no reference on the web page to a miniature railroad a block or two away.

http://www.pomarjunction.com/

The miniature railroad appears to be 12 or 15 inch gauge with steel rail.

If you do a Google map satellite view of the intersection of S El Pomar Rd and El Pomar Dr, the house on the NE lot has the tracks around it. I am going up there on Thanksgiving weekend, and will take photos.

I remembered seeing equipment for sale on DLS in Atascadero CA awhile back. Looks like this is it:

Not the same place. Atascadero is about 5 miles south of Templeton. My grandparents lived there for 20 years. The stuff at Palomar looks like grand scale to me with no aluminum rail.

Nice little run he's got there. The trestle is impressive. Whoever it is, hats off to a nice backyard railroad.

Agreed. I don't think you would be able to make out both rails quite so clearly if it were 7-1/2" gauge. My guess is 12" or 15" FWIW!

Would love to see what they run on this pike.

I have driven by there a number of times and never seen anything running. It is in the 12" to 15" gauge with very tight curves. Rumor is the guy stopped running years ago due to a lawsuit, but I have no 1st hand knowledge of that.

Anybody know how to contact the owner of this RR and find out if he is interested in selling his locomotive and equipment?

I am looking for a 12" or 15" Cagney, or similar era locomotive, and would love to talk to this fellow, or any one else who might know someone who is thinking of passing along his locomotive?

Iam in the Seattle area, so going to knock on his door is a long trip!

Thanks much,
Glenn
