Alva Trook's Track

Post by dnevil »

I am trying to locate the former location of Alva Trook's 3/4 inch track in Lafayette, Indiana. I have been unable to find the cemetery next to the former location using Google maps and satellite. Perhaps someone familiar with Lafayette, or someone that knew Alva, could help pinpoint the former location? I'd like to add the information to the following page:

At the corner of W 300 S and 4th Street there is a small cemetery. That might be it. I had to use ground view it wasn't labeled on google maps.

This brings back memories. I was at this track for the summer meet in 1958, I believe. That was along with my Dad, Enos Yoder. He should still have an 8 mm movie of that visit. The scenes included a spiffy, C&NW-style 4-4-2 as well as a PRR K4.

Would anyone have some still photos to share here?

gman,

Thanks for the location, I could not see a cemetery there. Still looking...

Bill,

Yes, any photos would be great. I just found another little blurb from 1956, stating that Alva's track was the second largest in the United States in 1956. Sure would be great to have photos or film of this.
