A few years ago a friend of mine went and took a few hundred photos of Wabash 573 for me. This, of course, is the prototype for the Allen Mogul. I finally got around to uploading all of these photos to the net for other people to use. These were taken when the locomotive was still way in the back of the museum quite neglected, but cover pretty much all the details.

You are free to use and share these as you see fit. They helped me a bit while building my mogul and I hope they help others.

Link worked OK for me. I heard she's undergoing a cosmetic restoration. Do you know if they've made any progress?

Some friends of mine were on vacation while I was building my Allen Mogul and got me a few pics at that time. I had noticed that Allen's plans did not show a walk plate in front of the cylinders over the lead truck wheel. Most of the Allen Moguls I saw did not have this walk plate. I fabricated and installed these walk plates on mine. Your pics show the walk plate also. I have a photo album of my build on the Yahoo Allen Models Group. One for the engine, one for the tender labeled BGBill's ...
I believe my grandfather engineered Mogul #569. He was licensed in 1925 with the Wabash. Of course my engine replicated #569. I don't have it anymore and it is out in Iowa with a young engineer in his 20's. It has a Marty Knox boiler.

Too bad it's just a cosmetic restoration. It would look great out on the mainline with about 18 heavyweight coaches....maybe that wouldn't work, though

At least it's not being scrapped. An iconic engine of the past will get shiny face lift which will visually restore it to its day of glory whether there's a fire in the boiler or not.

Still would be cool to see. There aren't a lot of restored moguls or ten wheelers out there.

That last photo of #573 looks like more than a cosmetic restoration.
New jacketing is in place, plumbing back on, as are the bell, safety valves, and whistle!
I would not expect that jewelry to be installed just for cosmetic reasons.

The 573 was 'unveiled' this past May in a dedication ceremony. Hope the locomotive stays looking this good, even if it can't run.

I had them up on a FLICKR (I think... it was one of the photo hosting sites) but they nuked the account due to inactivity.

I still have all the photos. Let me find a new place to host them and I'll follow up.

Glad to see it's all cleaned up! Looks much better and will hopefully be around for many more years rather than rusting away.

Ok, it took a while but I finally located the CD-R with the photos on it. About to upload them all back to FLICKR again. I'll post a link when it's done later tonight.
