A few of questions.
1) Is this a book that is not in publication now?
2) Is the author still alive?
3) Why does Amazon want between 347 and 12,500 dollars for this book? Google it and find out for your selves
I am just curious. I found one on Ebay this week for 125 and hit the buy it now button. I have wanted one of these books but could not afford the high amazon price.
Just curious,

Yea, and that $12,500 one is rated "acceptable" condition.
I'm sure it's still in copyright, so you can't go scanning and printing it, like some other older books.
Not sure who holds the copyright, but when used copies are asking prices like that, it's God's way of telling you to reprint it.

Steve Booth Passed away several years ago. The last I heard that his family owns the rights to the book and does not have immediate plans to reprint it.
The current going price for the book is $125.00 to $150.00
BTW Steve used a lot of my freight car parts and trucks to build his cars. Mercer products are featured in the book.

Yea, there's a big gap between "asking" and "reality".Trainman4602 wrote:The current going price for the book is $125.00 to $150.00
But still, at more than $100 a pop, sounds like there's a market for reprinting it.

Your club library might have a copy...
I've read it. There's nothing earth shattering inside it to pay the high price. Today, with online build logs and emails, the hobby is stronger than ever

Between that book and "So You Want to Build a Live Steam Locomotive" I just don't see paying those prices. I have both. Back then MRB was a big deal. It was a look as to what was out there. But yeah now we have the internet so it has come a long way and it is always current. Eh the book not so much anymore. As for SYWTBALSL I never thought it was worth what I paid then much less what it goes for now. Between the internet, friends, and old steam tech books there is far more to learn that way. It's actually giving me the thought to dig them out and sell them.
