Live Steam Business assets being sold piecemeal?

Post by Kimball McGinley » Wed May 04, 2016 2:05 pm

I have seen a lot of listings on E-Bay recently for patterns and such for Steam loco cylinders, valve gear parts, wheels, truck parts etc. in 7-1/2" gauge. I think maybe it mentioned RR warehouse? Is some business being dismantled?

None of this looks like anything I ever remember seeing on the RR warehouse site...some of it looks pretty rough like they were made for 1 off parts

$9000 for tooling to make bells! How many bells do you have to sell to recoup that cost!

Makes me think that I should make molds and patterns.

I think Railroad Warehouse is selling off a private collection that includes patterns and tooling from Chet Peterson's Railroad Supply Corporation.

The patterns first appeared in February of last year:

October was the last time that it appeared that the web site was fully operational:
http://web.archive.org/web/201510240659 ... steam.com/

Then in November, it said:
"11/19/15 this page will be back online monday 11/23/15. Just taking a vacation and relaxing. "
http://web.archive.org/web/201511201206 ... steam.com/

and in January of 2016, all the products on the web site, except for the patterns and molds were gone:

RR Warehouse appears to be closing down. Any stock that he has is being sold on eBay along with the patterns. The good thing is he is not breaking up the patterns for each locomotive.

I've been watching as Bob has been selling off his Railroad Warehouse business for the past year+. As noted, he is selling complete patterns+parts packages for his heavy Mikado, the 90-ton logging Mikado, and the narrow gauge 4-4-0. Many complete manufacturing sets of patterns and wax molds do appear to be from the original Chet Peterson business in California. And many rare patterns from unknown projects have also surfaced from this treasure trove. Bob has been careful to try to identify the loose patterns.

It's a pretty amazing collection of Live Steam History going on the block. And opportinities for those interested in preserving these sets and items.
