Looking for a turn-of-the-century Sand/Steam Dome casting
I'm looking for a turn-of-the-century style steam dome and sand dome for my Allen Ten Wheeler that's backdated a little to around an 1890s appearance. I randomly saw a picture on the Chula Vista Live steamers of an engine that has exactly what I'm looking for.
These look like castings... Does anyone have any idea who supplies these, or anything like them? I'm familiar with Allen's castings, just looking for something a little different.
Thanks

I'm actually a member of the Chula Vista Live Steamers and know who owns that engine. I'll give the club president a heads up so he can attempt to get ahold of the club member that owns that engine and he might be able to communicate with you directly on here.

Those look like the Mikado castings originally
sold by Railroad Supply Corp.
Might give RR Supply a call.

What diameter boiler do the domes need to fit?

The boiler is a tapered/wagon top Allen boiler, ~8 5/8" (stock dia.) up front and only slightly larger diameter at steam dome, probably ~8 7/8" or maybe 9"

Yes, those are the 90-ton Mikado dome castings from Railroad Warehouse.makinsmoke wrote:Those look like the Mikado castings originally

RW is however liquidating his entire business. I don't know if he can pull individual casting any more. But do contact him and ask.
I'm using those same castings on both my steamers. Pic attached.
I don't have a pic of those domes on my 90-ton Mikado

Just FYI, Wayne Godshall obtained the all the patterns from Railroad Supply. Contact him as he may have the dome castings that your looking for.

I'm going to assume this is referring to Railroad Warehouse, the company in Nevada that used to offer the 90-ton Mike, which has been in the process of liquidation lately. Thanks for the heads-up.

Here's the RR Warehouse url with info on the sale of the entire 90-ton mikado business, toward the bottom of the first page.
The price has been lowered to $20,000 for all patterns, drawings, and castings in stock;
Probably enough to build several locomotives.

Correct. My mistake. He hasn't started casing anything from the patterns yet, but has alot of castings that had already been poured. When he gets cranked up, he will be offering the usra heavy Mikado.
