5" gauge Black 5 drawings

Post by Max_Simons » Mon Dec 12, 2016 8:02 pm

Hi guys, foes anybody know where I can find some drawings online for the 5" gauge Black 5 locomotive? I'm missing pages 1, 7, and 9 from my set!

Reeves has them all:

You will have to ask if they will sell less than a full set.

Don Young published his drawings for 5" gauge Black Five in his periodical Locomotives Large and Small. Can look up relevant issues for you if you need.

Just looked at your pictures and agree the coupled wheels do look like Black 5s, but many of the other castings do not. Suspect you have a mixed bag of different model castings. In particular the brass or bronze U shaped horn castings are not typical of the DYD Black 5. And you also have too many single side horn castings. Can you post a pic from the opposite side of the bronze horns?

Thanks for pics. Definately not Don Young's Black 5 horns. Wondered if I could identify them for you but look too generic. Sorry. Altho, if they have a 1.25" wide slot roughly 1 5/8" tall and 7/8" thick I can confirm they'd be for 5" gauge. If you're not going to use them, I might be interested in buying them.

They are just about 5/8" thick, 1.25" wide slot and 1-7/8" tall. I have 6 of them

I took a few more pictures that I was hoping you could look at for me two are of the boiler with smoke box on. I'm not sure if it's the right boiler, as I am missing that page in the drawings. Another two are of the tender shell. And the last one is of some castings that I cannot identify.

This guy has LBSC's article on "Doris", a 3.5" ga Black 5. Might help some.
