International Small Scales Meet - Montreal 2017
Re: International Small Scales Meet - Montreal 2017
If 4 3/4" folk are thinking of coming via NY, Finger Lakes will be open before or after if you are interested in stopping by. We have 4000' of ground running 4 3/4" and hold operating sessions from time to time. So we are about 4 1/2 hours from Montreal just off I-90. But I ask anyone thinking of this to contact me. Some of us are also hoping to make it up there for some of the event and want to insure we are also able to be hospitable at FLLS too. Private message here should do fine.

We will hopefully do a BIG event in July 2019 to celebrate our 85th Anniversary. Thankfully no conflict in the dates with FLLS, so Bernie can help wash dishes at MLS first.

Re: International Small Scales Meet - Montreal 2017
UPDATE:
As part of our Small Scales Meet (June 30 - July 2, 2017), we will be having a silent auction and maybe some raffle items to raise money for the new clubhouse. Why a new clubhouse? Because after 50 years the environmental laws have caught up with the town and we will have to hook up to the new city water and sewer systems that are coming soon. Please look in your workshops and under benches for items that you would like to donate to this cause. Of course, you are welcome to use the swap table as well with 10% of the sale price going to the club. Last minute items are welcome at the meet from visitors and vendors. There are already some exciting items on the list!! Thank you.
As of now, we have the following items on offer.
3/4” scale Tich modified as a Docksider loco.
3/4” scale riding car with brakes - needs work.
3/4” scale duplex steam feed water pump - new.

Re: International Small Scales Meet - Montreal 2017
I'm kind of surprised there hasn't been any other talk about this for the last month. While the webpage is up, it has limited data and a gap or two (bad link or template page), so kind of odd for a big event about to happen.

Does this event usually attract lots of folks? Is there ever concern about crossing the border with steam equipment?

Re: International Small Scales Meet - Montreal 2017
Like most clubs, we host a "big" meet each year. Some are special anniversaries which are bigger and some are regular events that are smaller. We have a good reputation for putting on a traditional meet without excessive fanfare but lots of live steam., good food at reasonable prices, free camping and a minimum or rules & regulations. You can run 24 hrs a day if you want!Builder01 wrote:Does this event usually attract lots of folks?
Formed in 1934, this year we are using our 50 year anniversary of owning this particular property as an excuse to knock it up a notch or two. we are facing a BIG job due to tighter environmental laws which will see the club hooking up to a new water system from the town. That means sewer hook up too and we need to build a new clubhouse to put in the toilets and shower, kitchen etc as our old chicken coop… yes it really was a coop, will become our workshop.
There will be a swap table and silent auction with very interesting items on the block. There are brand new VB type steam pumps members have built for sale. There is a 3/4" TICH Docksider 0-4-0 and more.
We travel several times a year to US clubs and we get many visiting engineers over the past 83 years. You should contact the office of the border crossing you will use. I recommend you print out a copy of the event flyer as sometimes it is rather comical explaining how we "play" with small trains.Builder01 wrote:Is there ever concern about crossing the border with steam equipment?
We've had visitors from every Canadian province, England, Europe and many US states including California & all of the Northeast. We are located on nearly 4 acres of our own property, lots of trees, plenty of parking, a 1370 foot long elevated track, lots of steaming bays and 4030 feet of 7-1/4" (yes, it is not exclusive to small scales) and NO PUBLIC so there is plenty of room for live steamers.
