Need Expert assistance

Post by westy462 »

Any chance somewhere out there one would find a recommended list of piping materials and sises and fittings required for steam, water, and air for a coal fired 1-1/2 scale locomotive?

That's a rather large question. More specifics would help with answers.

Steam supply lines are typically 3/8 pipe.
Injector lines are typically 5/16 tube.
Blower line is typically 1/4 tube.

Etc., etc.

Of course, there's the entire category of model pipe as well if you're looking to build as close to prototype as possible.

For oil fired locos:

Steam supply for atomizer typically 3/16 inch diameter tubing (brass or copper)
Oil supply typically 5/16 inch diameter tubing (brass)

Here are some sizes on the CNW J Mikado piping diagram.

This is for 1-1/2" and 1.6" scales

3/4" Pipe, 5/32" Tube, Locomotive brakes,
1" Pipe, 3/16" Tube
1-1/4" Pipe, Blower line, Train air line,
1-1/2" Pipe, 1/4" Tube Air pump Steam supply, Air pump steam exhaust, Air pump discharge,
2" Pipe, 5/16" Tube Injector delivery pipe, Air pump suction,
2-1/2" Pipe, 3/8" Tube
3" Pipe, 7/16" Tube, Injector water supply,

I will update this list if as I find more.
