Railroad Supply USRA Mikado Boiler Size

Post by FLtenwheeler »

Hi

What size tube/pipe does the Mikado use for its boiler?

Thanks

Tim

The one I built used an 11" pipe, which was 11.75" OD and approximately 11" ID.

11" pipe is expensive and is hard to find, but works perfect for these boilers.

I finished another boiler last fall and used 12" heavy wall sch80 .440 wall I think. Made a small project a mountain going from 10" but worth all the sleepless nights. Taking a light mikado and going this route was what the customer wanted and not for the faint hearted. Everything had to be adjusted. Look up my name on YouTube and see the end result on its first test run. Side beside a RR Supply heavy Mike the difference can be easily seen. Everything above the frame is different but what a difference and with a Bagley burner in it you have to be careful or it will overfire three Superscale safties. Don't cut a shortcut here build it once and do it right and you'll never regret it I promise you.
