1/2 id flue brushes?

Does anyone out there have a good source of 1/2 id flue brushes? The copper .45 caliber jags wear out too fast. I would like to find steel or similar.

Those 45 cal brushes should be brass wire,
not copper.

Do you have copper or steel flues? Not sure you'd
want to use steel wire in copper flues.

I use a black nylon tube brush and put it on a 1/8" brass rod. It is flexible and I can get all the flues from the smoke box. I spin it with a portable drill. It goes through a lot easier than the gun cleaning brushes and does a good job of getting the soot out. I have been using this method for 25 plus years with good results.

There is a company here on the West Coast called Brush Research.They make all different size brushes and flex hones from very small diameter to large cylinder brushes and hones. I believe they have a web site.

I use a 20/28 gauge shotgun brush. You can buy them in copper or in stainless steel. the stainless steel ones are made in using large loops of stainless wire, and do a good job and will last longer. You probably should search on the internet for them because most of the local places that I've been to don't stock them. I use a 20/28 gauge brush for my 1/2" flues, and a 12 gauge version for the 3/4" flues.

Don't have any concerns about using the stainless brushes in your copper tubes. You're going to brush the tubes probably 2x per running day, and run the locomotive probably 15 days per year? It would take an awful long time to wear through that copper doing that. Besides, those are pretty thin wires.
