Back gouge welding

Post by jlakes85 »

Hi all,

If I'm doing a fusion pass first on the backside and then wanted to grind down to this pass from the front side, would I be looking for a change in texture of metal to signify that I've reached the fusion weld area? Thanks again.

Nope. A good weld should not appear any different. That's why an acid etch is used to show the penetration when testing welds. The etching brings out the grain.
