I use the water glass from LocoParts, I am working with Jeff to develop a bottom connection that projects into the water space. I prefer to drill and tap the backhead rather than use a half coupling.

Marty,
Currently saving up to have a boiler made for my loooong term 10 wheeler build, (I priced one from you last year). Why is it you recommend steel tubes vs K copper in an oil fired version? Seal welded one end?

The oil fire ramps up and down so fast copper tubes can pull away from the sheet and start leaking.
Seal welding the steel tubes at the firebox end transfers the heat into the sheet better and keeps the end of the tube from burning.

Yes, both ends are rolled. The firebox end is rolled, seal welded, then re-rolled. This keeps the seal on the water side.

That is prototype practice, for good reasons as noted by Marty.

What type of steel alloy and wall thickness would you recommend Marty?
