Cylinder Cocks....grime or seal

Post by utahwestie »

Hello all,

looking for some advice. I've taken the cylinder cocks off my Mogul for cleaning. I believe these are from Super Scale.

In the picture below with the beat up screwdriver as a pointer, my question is. Is this grime build up or is it a seal of some sort. I took them apart and had them soaking in simple green for a few minutes and the started to wipe with a paper towel to remove the crud. It looks like it might be a seal that has deteriorated but i'm holding off until I seek your advice.

Grime or damaged seal?

Thanks for all the help and advice.

I think it is grime. under that should be a disk that the control steam pushes against to close the drain.

mine did not have any seals when i cleaned them after they loaded up from casting sand that was blown out the first time she was steamed, you are looking at "dirt",
If it is not live steam. its not worth it.
