The Worad Company of Minneapolis

Post by baggo »

Hi all,

I'm interested in finding out any information about the Worad Company of Minneapolis who offered drawings and castings for a 1/2" scale 4-8-4 Northern in the late 1940's. Does anyone know anything about them or even have one of their locomotives? Did they produce any other designs?

One of our US members has a part built loco and a complete set of drawings that he has offered to us (the N25GA) for our drawings archive.

It would seem that the loco was designed by a Mr Harold Darr who was/may have been part of the Worad company along with a Mr Howard Woo.

As well as the drawings, our member also has copies of correspondence between the builder of his chassis ( Mr Howard Glass, a watchmaker of Canton, Ohio) and Mr Darr.

John

Harold Darr was father to Bob Darr who was one of the members of the Southern Minnesota Live Steamers Association and one of the founders of the St. Croix Railroad. I may be able to get more information from Bobs widow, however she is "snowbirding" at the moment.
