3/4" scale Dinky

Post by backyardrails »

Just a thought and a potential build, Has anyone one the Chaski list built built the 3 1/2 gauge Dinky by Friends Modsels?
I bought the drawings and looks like a nice project.

A Karl Friedrich design, from Pennsylvania , not a Friends design. I personally don`t know of anyone building this engine @ this time. :D

Isn't there a group build of this engine being done by a few members of the Washakum club?

Don, your right. Friends sell the castings. An engine that time forgot. I do not know how many were built.

I am using the Dinky drive wheels on a 1" 2-4-0 that I am building.

The Friends' castings are very nice.

I also have a complete set of drawings, which are also very clear.
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

This is what the wheels look like with steel tires attached (I needed a slightly larger OD for my 1" project)

Bill
Can you tell us more about the model you are building? What prototype?
Looks good.

Technically Dinky is Not 3/4” scale. It is a 1” scale model of a 3’ 6” gauge (narrow gauge) locomotive.

Yes Keith, A 1" scale. 0-4-0. The boiler diameter is 5" and it just so happens that I have a copper tube for it.
Good size engine.

Bernie, thanks for your interest. Bill Shields, thanks for your comment about my castings' quality.

As for "An engine that time forgot", Dinky was stuck in the year 1979 (when Friends Models closed) for almost 30 years.

All castings are in stock: http://www.friendsmodels.com/productsfo ... ky040.html

Other castings, not yet listed on the site, but specified for the design, are in stock too. Rear cylinder heads, boiler front, etc.

If anyone's interested in building this engine, he or she can contact me at Friends Models. Info@friendsmodels.com

Thank you,

-John K.
