Piston mounting

I would like to know what people do regards the mounting / securing of the piston on the shaft .

I have threaded the piston and rod 3/8 UNF thread with a lock nut as per the photo , I was going to use loctite 243 to lock it together .

Is this enough or do I need to pin the lock nut ?

Do you have enough threads to fill out the locknut?
In the picture, one of the pistons appears to be assembled on the shaft and it appears there is only about 1/2 a nut thickness of threads engaged.

Yes the lock nut goes full depth , I just did'nt screw it on all the way .
The nut is 5.5 mm / 7/32 thick , space is tight .

On my mogul, the SS rod is threaded into the bronze piston and then silver soldered. You should never have to disassemble the rod from the piston after assembly.

there are many ways to do this -> Loctite will work just fine in this situation or you can dimple the counterbore and as you say 'pin' the locknut in place....or center punch the threads after assembly.

There are as many ways to do this as there are folks reading this bbs.

i threaded the rod and piston like others, i used retaining compound. it will take lots of heat to loosen it up now.
