Has anybody found anything that works well (in 1.5" scale) for insulating pipe wrap?
Working on the throttle in my LE American and in the new arrangement, the throttle line and my fingers keep getting too close together.
Thanks!

Dianne...
Have seen some locomotives with cotton string or shoe lace wrapped steam lines. Looks somewhat realistic. Can paint either material if you want something other than cotton white...or something other than designer colors/patterns. Carl B.

Re: Pipe Wrap?
Jack Bodenmann showed me how to use electrical friction tape for those wraps.
He tears it in half longitudinally to make the laps smaller.
Paint it when done or leave as-is.

Lashing. Find some moderate sized thread, and do a lot of half hitches...

I use McMaster-Carr fiberglass adhesive-backed tape to wrap the piping on my locomotives:
White Strips — Adhesive Backing = Acrylic
Temperature, °F = 300°
1/2" wide, 0.063" Thick
Per Ft.: $0.72
Catalog # 87965K11
It cuts with scissors. the adhesive works perfectly, even baking into position after the first steamup, and accepts enamel paints, too.
I'm guessing on the thickness I used. I think that 0.063" is correct.
I hope that's the correct catalog number. It's been several years since I last ordered it.
Picture below of the cab of my well-enjoyed Ten Wheeler.
The pipe wrapping on my new locomotive is a better job than that shown here.
And I use brass wire to wrap only the ends of each application to prevent "unwinding" of the insulating tape. It's a cleaner job.
