1/4 ID Steam Hose?

Post by DianneB »

Has anyone found a 1/4" ID hose for 100 PSI steam that ISN'T heavy cross-section?

I need a short piece for the steam locomotive brakes on my 7.5" LE American. (It was originally a vacuum ejector brake but the ejector didn't work well so I converted to steam pressure.)

Thanks gang!

I have used ptfe hose, covered in stainless steel braid from McMaster Carr
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

I'll second that. The hose Bill mentions is high quality and can tolerate pressures far beyond what would be encountered in your application. You want McMaster SKU 52515K2 for 1/4" ID hose. It can be mated with JIC (SKU 52515K42) or NPT (SKU 52515K32) fittings. I used the 3/16" ID and 3/8" ID versions of this hose for some compressed air connections inside my F-unit (nominally 100 PSI), and the 1/2" ID version to couple the traction motors to the rest of the propulsion system (up to 1800 PSI during a hard pull up a grade).
