SP GS-1's

Post by Gary Bonine »

Is there anyone who may have the 1.5" scale drawings for the elevation and section drawings of SP's GS-1 that I could get copies of ?

Gary,

At one time I think I had some drawings for a GS1. I'll have to dig to see if I still have them.

Are you looking at building one? Iirc, they were the heaviest SP steam to run in Texas.

Do you ever see any SP steam drawings ever surface in your area? I know that SP built or did some major rebuilds on locos in Houston, but I have never seen much surface for locos like the rebuilt P-5, P-14, or M21 classes. I'm personally poking around looking for parts drawings for the P4, A3, A6, and C8, 9, and 10 classes.

Regards,

Doug

Check with the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento, CA.
They have much SP historical information and drawings.

Thanks for the replies.
I have not heard of any drawings surfacing in our area. I purchased the A-6 drawing from Roger Goldmann ( livesteamlocomotives.com ) a few years back; he has most of the drawings for the locomotives you mention but little to non for parts applicable to them.

I had forgotten about the CSRM - will try them. In the early 90's when we restored the 786 in Austin, TX I got a drawing from them for an Arizona Eastern 2-8-2 that was the same design for SP's MK-5; proved to be very helpful for tramming the engine.

Thanks again,
Gary

You might want to reach out to Don Yungling as he has constructed a GS-1. Here is a thread with a few pics of his beautiful engine - http://www.chaski.org/homemachinist/vie ... ng#p374721
And here is another thread where he is working on some of the details - http://www.chaski.org/homemachinist/vie ... hp?t=98257
