Re: Safety chains
I've only ever seen those that someone fabricated for themselves. You'd have to fabricate this based on the couplers you are using, and make sure and leave enough room behind it so that you can actually fit it behind the coupler and it still be able to swing side-to-side. Also, at our club and probably a few others, the rules state that safety chains must be welded chain. That rule was made so that people wouldn't be using dog chain or some other light-weight chain with thin wrapped lengths for safety chain, just to be able to say they've 'got safety chains'.

Re: Safety chains
Here a slightly different variant that is functionally the same and uses some #2 (?) welded link.

Re: Safety chains
Another simple solution is to make a double ended choke chain from a piece of chain and 2 quick disconnects. It looks SIMILAR to the one in the picture (The picture is actual an obstetrical chain for birthing calves) but you get the idea. The difference is you don't pass the chain through the eye you instead make a fixed and non changing loop with link. If you do it right, the chain holds the shank of the coupler and CANNOT slip over the striking head and come loose. Its a little annoying to hook them up, but is meant to be an adjustable temporary solution if you do not have the hooks in place or rip one off or similar. I used these on my log cars for a few years before finally finishing the endsills/ chain mounts.
