Well, here's a ride they won't forget. The Coast Starlight has been stuck in the mountains south of Eugene since Sunday. At least Amtrak is providing free "food."

Reminds me of the famous train that got stuck over Donner back in the 1950s. Here's the tale of that one:

Reminds me of the Murder on the Orient Express. Except in that one there were murderers on the train...

Just read both articles. That’s crazy.
Maybe it’s just the type of literature, but I’ve seen a pattern of pre-1960 writers choosing more diverse wording than seen in newer articles. Specifically pertaining to railroads, but then again I don’t read much else to form an opinion otherwise.
There’s always exceptions, but it’s nice when the writer doesn’t assume you’re not smart enough to read anything but common grammar. I more often than not won’t know it, but it’s easy enough to look it up.

I have to wonder how the snow and the traction motors get along. The Central of Ga. was one of the first roads to completely dieselize, yet they kept 2 steamers on backup in the roundhouse in Savannah up into the 60's. They don't call this area "the low country" for nothing, flooding is common.

Tonight's news reports that the train was moved and the passengers finally got off.
