Jesse:
What is the ratio of free gas area to grate area on your steel boiler?
Thanks,

Well, I didn’t know that LE was offering steel boilers! Might have considered that option if we had known.

Jeff Tolan, The steam was welded on towards the end. Since this boiler was built, we developed/brought back an old/new throttle design we will be using. It was originally in the Baldwin Mogul. I believe we can make it work in the American as well. See photos.

Well, the boiler passed a hydrotest. Rolling the tubes on the firebox end was not easy because of cramped space, but no leaks around the copper tubes were seen.

Dan, you deserve a lot of credit and praise for getting this project to completion.
Advice and help from Marty Knox and Fred V. were instrumental, but it was your planning and sweat that got it done.
Tom's locomotive was built by his father, and having it under steam again will mean a lot.
The tender tank is 97% complete in my shop, and we will be mounting and plumbing up the boiler in short order.
Fred, thanks for the hydro and your time/skill this week too.

Atta Boy Guys

Ran the American at Mid South Today. Looking forward to getting together with you guys to run together.

Out of curiosity, do you know the year that Tom's Dad built the American?

Question for Jesse

My American is slippery to say the least. She weighs in a 137 pounds with an original LE Cast boiler.

Do you know what the American in your videos weigh?

One thing to ask is what kind of GRADE was he on when pulling those cars. It's impressive no matter what, but the biggest difference for you Charlie is the fact that we have 3%+ grades that you have to deal with, which will limit your trailing load significantly. Looked like you were doing pretty good out there yesterday, and were able to run around quite a lot up the main hills and all. Looks like it steams well, too.
