Steam Pump need help identifying

Post by Bill C »

A couple years ago I bought this 5 piece casting set off Ebay. The seller did not know the make and didn’t have any plans or prints.

Please take look and see if you can help me identify them and if you know where I can get plans to build it. The large bore is about 1” and the small one is 5/8”. The castings are beautiful but I don’t see any make identity.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Bill

It is a dummy and not intended to run as cast...

Thanks for the replies. I have no idea what scale it is but at about 5” tall and 4” wide, I would guess it is made to be 1.5” inch scale.

Bill Shields, do you have any idea who produced it or where I can get plans to finish it?

If it would help, I can shoot a video of the parts and upload to my YouTube channel.

I was wondering if it could be a dummy, not made to run. But it is difficult to believe as the castings are so detailed and the cores for the cylinders are smoother than some I have seen for working models.

Thanks again,

Bill C.

do the heads castings look like they have been produced to add a shuttle valve, drilled porting and cover heads for the shuttle?

the casting on the right in your second picture would have to contain the auxiliary valve.

I concur that the castings are probably for a dummy pump, not a working one.
Here's are pics of what can be done with similar castings, without plans or drawings.

If that's a dummy, it's the smartest looking dummy I've ever seen.

that it may be, but ...

look at the center distance between cylinders, and what needs to go in there to make a working pump.

Look at the top casting an all the stuff for the shuttle that must be there to make a working pump.

hat is off to anyone who can build one of those things, make and KEEP it running.

Here’s a link to a 3 minute video showing the casting set in greater detail.

Based on the dimensions given, these castings are likely 1" scale.

As a reference, in 1.6" the width of the castings should be close to 4", and overall height of the castings stacked together would be approximately 6.65".

I suppose it's possible they could be made to work, but I don't think the castings were designed for it. There's a number of important features missing especially on the upper and lower heads.

Anthony- thanks for those observations, hop it helps narrow down the possibilities so I can find plans.

RN - NP317- do you have a recommendation for me about where to look for plans? I do have some old magazine reprints of the VanBrocklin pump.

Bill:
No, I do not know where to get plans.
I used photos of the real pumps to scale sizes and details.
And I built it to 1/8th scale.
Yes, it's a dummy. Like me, sometimes...
