injector?

Post by Fred_V » Sun May 12, 2019 10:53 am

A friend is building an RGS 20 and is about ready to fire it. Since he can't get an EE injector or any other for that matter he is going to try to use a 3/8" Penberthy that he has.

The question is how much can he reduce the plumbing sizes and still have it work? As you can expect he doesn't want to have to use 3/8" pipe up to the boiler check. We were wondering if 1/4" pipe would work.
Thanks,

Hey Fred, 1/4" will work. Had it on my G5 and worked fine.

Last I knew A & K injectors are available.

Had 3/8" OD copper line on a 3/8" penberthy injector, and that thing would deliver some water quick. was a 12" diameter boiler, and that big injector was slick as a button. Used horizontal checks, 1/4" Pipe size. Also had a SuperScale economy injector on it, and an axle pump. The SuperScale economy worked great too.

Thanks for all the help. He will use 3/8" copper with inline check to a street EL at the boiler. I figured a 1/4" ball valve for the steam would be enough. 3/8" copper for the water line.

If you think about it, the bore of the tailpipes is about a 1/4" square (I'm using a generalization since I typically use a 1/4" ratchet extension to install these things). That's about 1/16 sq inches of area. 3/8" NPT would be about 0.300 in^2. I think you'll be fine with 1/4" NPT fittings or even the 3/8" copper tube as Pontiacguy1 recommended.
